"We are not sure what Amos Bronson 's occupation was, but
because of the rocky terrain here was probably raised sheep
          rather than crops.
The first house was probably constructed of logs but later
rebuilt of rough hewn clapboards.  The cellar, which is
          still intact,
contains a curious 'chamber' which seems to have no apparent
use in normal life.  It is about 4 feet wide and 16 feet
          long."
It had no opening into the cellar itself and could only have
been from the floor above.  So why did it exist?
There are two theories.  One is that
it was intended as a shelter from Indian attack, or that it
might have been built to 'hide' runaway slaves as part of the
        'underground railway'."
